Barry Connor Architectural Design Ltd is a service that creates one-off concept designs for residential homes. Whatever the budget, Barry works closely with his clients to realise their aspirations for function, form, quality and value.
Undertaking new home designs, alterations, and renovations of various types, Barry aims to incorporate aspects of sustainable design into his concepts, even those on a modest budget. With a keen eye to detail and a creative approach to problem solving, Barry creates exceptional living spaces. And by utilising the latest virtual software, and a discerning knowledge of products and technologies, he ensures the design process is a stress-free and enjoyable one.
With a passion for both architectural design and New Zealands environment, Barry is also qualified as a professional Home Star Assessor. Youll find a Home Star rating on all of his new home designs, outlining its energy efficiency and aspects of sustainability. Barry puts it this way: Wherever possible I encourage principles of sustainability and incorporate eco-friendly features. Every design is orientated around the sun, thats key, and by working with the natural environment, the home is designed to be both a pleasure to live in, and cost-effective to operate.
Barry takes time to guide his clients through the development process, giving reasons and rationale behind the design. By utilising the latest 3D computer software Barrys clients also enjoy a virtual walk-through experience of their concept design.

On first meeting Barry we were impressed by his design knowledge, and by his friendliness, and desire to find out what was important to us. He listened, and took on board our photos and info of the things we liked. We wanted a "forever home", but with a young family we had a limited budget.
Our brief was to have the feel of a bach, but to live like a family home. With a sloped section, it was potentially quite expensive.
Barry worked within our budget, and designed a multi-level home with minimal excavation. He met our brief so well it felt like he'd known us for a long time. He listened carefully and used cost-effective methods like using the cedar we loved, and a high spec roofing material only where it could be seen and appreciated.
He was approachable, unpretentious and happy to adapt things as needed, and kept us on track with our budget. We've now got a fabulous, modern, stylish design with many features that make the living spaces more liveable. Barry even thought forward to when our children leave home by designing a wing that can be shut down when it's not needed.
Everything was about us, our lives and our future, and getting the best value for our money. We're glad we met Barry, and very happy with the wonderful design of our home.
