Otago Region Celebrates Award Winners

We were proud to award three incredible homes from the Otago region with top honours at the 2022 Otago/Southland Regional ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards on Friday 12 August in Dunedin.

Congratulations to the talented designers: Ant Jackson of Immersion Architecture, Matt Anderson-Stewart of MAS Architecture Ltd and Juan Puricelli of SUR Architecture Ltd.

Ant Jackson won the 2022 Otago/Southland Residential New Home over 300m2 Award. The project titled ‘Kinross Residence’ is set in the spectacular Jacks Point. The modern home incorporates simple, yet elegant gable pavilions linked by subservient lower “flat” roofs. The gable forms running North to South are integrated in the gentle slope of the site allowing each pavilion to sit above the next and demonstrate the hierarchy of importance.

Matt Anderson-Stewart won the Resene Colour in Design Award for ‘Domain Road’ in Queenstown. Set within the picturesque setting of the Wakatipu Basin, this site presented a canvas for a piece of architecture that responded not only to its surroundings but also to create a positive and low-impact response to the built environment.

The Resene Judge loved the softened forms, contemporary fixtures and dark depths.

“They have all come together to create an elegant, dark palette within Wakatipu Basin. The beautiful, black exterior of this home says sophistication and prestige and are enhanced by delicate, warmed lighting,” they said.

Juan Puricelli received a Commended Award in the Residential Alterations and Additions category for a Dunedin project titled ‘Broad Bay’.

A converted hall, located at Broad Bay on the Otago Peninsula, was renovated to include a larger separate lounge/family room and dining area, kitchen, master bedroom with ensuite and two further bedrooms and a separate bathroom. The goal was to create a functional design that made the most of the harbour views and the afternoon sun with a covered deck connected to the garden.
