Regional Award Winners Announced

On Friday 21 July, the 2023 winners of Regional ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards were announced in Palmerston North for the Wellington/Wairarapa, Taranaki/ Whanganui/ Manawatū and the Hawke’s Bay Regions.

In the Wellington region, eight projects were recognised, the winners were:

  • Big Sky by Ben Gilpin of Gil-plans Architecture
  • The Nest by Ben Gilpin of Gil-plans Architecture
  • Braised Brick by Ben Gilpin of Gil-plans Architecture
  • Island Shelter by Ben Gilpin of Gil-plans Architecture
  • Karaka Heights House by Mike Holmes of Holmes Architecture
  • Waimea Coastal Studio by Robyn De La Haye of Essence Architectural Design Ltd
  • Waimea Kitchen by Robyn De La Haye of Essence Architectural Design Ltd
  • Sanctum by Tim Wernham of Constructive Architecture

In the Hawke’s Bay region, the winner was:

  • Heretaunga Intermediate School by Darryl Church of DCA Architects of Transformation

And finally in the Taranaki/Whanganui/Manawatū region, the winners were:

  • Whare Niwa by Kyle Ramsay of KR Architecture
  • Misoi by Sarah Cheetham of Emma Brown Design

Keryn Davis, CEO of Architectural Designers New Zealand, said the winning projects are diverse, interesting, dynamic and ultimately demonstrate the depth of skill and experience amongst the ADNZ membership.

“The ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards are in place to recognise the incredible mahi that ADNZ members contribute to Aotearoa’s built environment, to our communities and to the building and design industry every day. The awards are our opportunity to celebrate the success of our designers and showcase their talent and skill to all. Congratulations to the awards winners, you are each very deserving.”

The awards were judged by a powerhouse panel, made up of leading industry experts from around New Zealand. Thank you to Pamela Bell, CEO at the New Zealand Institute of Building, Pete Bossley, Registered Architect and Director of Bossley Architects, Guy Marriage, Architect with First Light Studio and a Senior Lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington and Rebecca Long from Resene.

All winners of regional awards are finalists in the National ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards. The national winners will be announced at the National Design Awards Gala Dinner on 27 October in Wellington.
