Project Description

This Mount home may be modern and new, but it’s full of finer details that make it incredibly special, personal and nostalgic for our client who grew up in the original cottage. After using the property as a holiday bach, in our client’s retirement they felt the time was right to return to their beloved slice of paradise for the next generation of family memories to be shared. Heart Rimu painstakingly rescued from the dilapidated original cottage has been used extensively throughout the design. The old laundry door also found a new lease of life guarding the ‘whiskey den’ downstairs (etched with the children’s growth chart – a time capsule connecting old with new). Contrasting black battens, vertical cedar and white brick define two opposing roof structures which are linked by a central spine corridor. Two covered outdoor areas, LouvreTec roofing, LED lighting, a cosy outdoor fireplace and solar harvest panels make this home a dream through every season. As a nod to his career in the beer industry, our client brought a number of unique ideas to the drawing board which we were excited to weave into the design, from planting a beer hops vine in the backyard to a large stainless-steel brewery blade enjoying a well-deserved rest in the sun after commercially making millions of litres of beer.
