I am writing on behalf of Gap Filler Trust to thank you so very much for the huge role you played in our Dance-O-Mat project that ran on a post-quake vacant site in Christchurch from 15 February-28 May, 2012. Dance-O-Mat was created in response to the loss of many of the dance studios and performance spaces around the city. This was our most ambitious project to date and was extremely successful, getting around 600 hours of use (based on the $2 coins collected)!
From random passers-by to organised dance groups, flamenco, break dance and the Superhero Dance Squad, this project really seemed to tap into a need not only for a space for dancers but a space for people to have fun and gather in the city and to celebrate life amongst the ruins. It was accessible, very simple and encouraged people to 'play' in the city.
This project was in development for five months and a lot of volunteer good will and energy made it happen. F3's support in the design and development of Dance-O-Mat is greatly appreciated and was a huge part of the project. Working with F3 was a fantastic experience.
Because of the Dance-O-Mat's success we will be re-installing it on another vacant site in the Spring and already people are looking forward to it! In fact, some people have even called for it to be a permanent fixture in the city with one possibility being Cathedral Square!
Thank you for supporting Gap Filler in its mission to realise temporary, creative projects on vacant sites.
