The 2021 Resene Architecture and Design Film Festival will soon be kicking off around the country. With the Newmarket Rialto Cinema playing host to opening night on May the 6th, we’re excited to announce our continued support for the festival.
This year we’re proud to be sponsoring the film Aalto, a captivating journey into the life and work of one of the greatest modern architects, Alvar Aalto.

The film takes a look into the intimate love story of the Finnish architect and his wife, Aino Aalto, highlighting her importance as an equal architect colleague and visionary designer.
Alvar and Aino were a modern, sophisticated and liberal couple, who married in 1924, co-designing many buildings around the world. The film takes us on a tour through their creative processes and iconic buildings, including a library in Russia, a student dormitory at MIT, an art collector’s private house near Paris, and a pavilion in Venice.

Architectural Designers New Zealand will also be facilitating special Q&A sessions around the country following the screening of Aalto. This is an opportunity to hear from local architectural professionals and to gain a deeper understanding of the film and Aalto's impact on the architectural industry.
