This 1973 house had been owned by a single owner since its construction. It had been a quality build with state-of-the-art fittings at the time. The owners were moving into a retirement village and my client, a local builder, could see the potential to give the house a 2nd lease of life for a new owner. The site posed several challenges as it was an irregular shape and the neighbours would not approve any RMA breaches. The layout also lacked a good entrance to the upper floor with the stairs facing the back door with no clear path to the living area. Because the future owner was unknown, the spaces had to be flexible with multiple potential uses. Renovating these types of dwellings is a crucial way for us to upcycle & increase the value of our existing housing stock.
